How to use "Mr.", "Dr.", "Mrs.", "Miss" and "Ms." [英語]

My English native teacher in America teaches me how to use "Mr.", "Dr.", "Mrs.", "Miss" and "Ms." as follows,

Mr. --> normal title for a man..

Dr. --> title for someone (man or woman) with a PhD.

Mrs. --> title for a woman (woman is married).
Miss --> title for a woman (woman is not married).
Ms. --> title for a woman (marital status is unknown).

"Ms." Always use this. It is considered the most polite title for a woman.
Whether a woman is married, or not, is private information.

"Miss" could be used for very young girls. If you write a letter to an elementary
school, or middle school, girl, "Miss" is ok and sounds cute.

"Mrs." No one uses this anymore because women often get married and divorced. So,
if your client changes from "Mrs." to "Miss" then you know she got a divorce.

This is impolite. Always use "Ms."

"Dr." If you know that a person has a PhD, use "Dr." Some people might get offended if
you forget to use "Dr." Other people do not care.

P.75 #120 (だけ / だけあった / だけに / だけの)

Section A 意味:~にふさわしく 接続:[動・い形・な形・名]の名詞修飾型+だけ <ただし[名‐の]の[の]はつかない。>

It means "because", "as", "as many as", "as much as", "right", "adequate", "logical" and so on.

A-1. この仕事は努力しただけ成果が現れるので、やりがいがある。
(This work is worthwhile, because the result respond your effort.)

A-2. この大学は歴史が長いだけあって伝統がある。
(This college has the adequate tradition that has the long history.)

Section B 意味:~だから一層 接続:Aと同じ

When using “~だけに”, there is a passion , a fever (or something like that) of the speaker or the subject of the sentence.

In many cases, there is a reason why the speaker or the subject has the passion or the fever in the sentence.
However in some case, there is not written a a written reason, but the reader or the listener can understand or guess from former sentences or the situation.

B-1. 今日の試合は優勝がかかっているだけに大勢のファンが詰めかけ熱烈な応援をしていた。
The passion of the reasonThe reason for the passion is “今日の試合は優勝がかかっている (If a team winwins the game, the team will be No.1) ”,
so “大勢のファンが詰めかけ熱烈な応援をしていた。(There are a lot of fan to fans that go to the game and to root for their team.)”

B-2. 昨年はみかんが不作で、値段が高かっただけに今年の豊作がうれしい。
The passion of the reasonreason for the passion is “昨年はみかんが不作で、値段が高かった (There werewas an orange failure and so the price of them was high last year.)”,
so “今年の豊作がうれしい。 (We are happy for the abundant crop this year.)”

Section C 意味:~の限度まですべて<「~だけ」「~だけの」が使われる> 接続:[動・い形・な形]の名詞修飾型+だけ

When using “~だけ”, it means the limit"the limit".

C-2 ほしいだけ本が買えたらどんなにいいだろう。
C-3 ふだんは忙しくて寝る時間も十分ないので、休みの日は好きなだけ寝ています。

C-2, “ほしいだけ” means “as many as I want or I wish”. C-3, “好きなだけ” means “as much as I want or I wish”

C-2 “ほしいだけ本が買えたらどんなにいいだろう。”, means “I want to buy as many books as I wish (to buy).“
But thisthese example is not so good.
I think itthis is better “欲しい分だけ本が買えたら、どんなに良いだろう。”,
because we misunderstand “欲しい本だけ買えたらどんなに良いだろう
(I want to buy the onlyonly buy books I want, (but I have to buy the whole collection.) or (but I have to buy the combo booksbook combo.)”

C-3 “ふだんは忙しくて寝る時間も十分ないので、休みの日は好きなだけ寝ています。” means
“As I don’t have enough time because ofI am so busy (on weekday), I take a sleep as much as I want on holidaymy day off.”
If you want to learn these meanings, I recommend you to make some sentences.

Thank you.

The difference between "はずです" and "つもりです" [自分]

There is a homework for me to describe the difference between "はずです" and "つもりです"

In my opinion, the difference between "はずです" and "つもりです" is as follows,

When to useusing "はずです", the speaker or the writer has thean opinion or guess.
However when to useusing "つもりです", the subject of the sentence has the will.

We can usually talksay "明日は雨が降るはずです。", because the speaker has thea guess or the opinion.
We don't usually talksay "明日は雨が降るつもりです。", because "雨" doesn't have thea will.

We can usually talksay both "彼は怪我したから次の試合に行かないつもりです。" and "彼は怪我したから次の試合に行かないはずです。".

But their background arecontext is difference.
If we talksay "彼は怪我したから次の試合に行かないつもりです。" , the speaker knows the will of the subject of the sentence.
And if we talk "彼は怪我したから次の試合に行かないはずです。" ,
the speaker has the opinion or the speaker guesses thatit.

Thank you.

So I will teach him Japanese Grammer. But the problem is too difficult for even Japanese to explain it.
So I purchased this book. I think to explain Japanese grammer is good for me to learn English grammer.
He recomended a music. This music is good for me to use easy words and to use same phrases.

Thank you.

And I had conversation with one of my friends.
He is so gentle to teach me a lot of English.
I practiced the 2nd episode of "Fringe" with him.
At first, "Fringe" is too frighten for me, but now it is so exciting like "X-File".
"Fringe" is not completed yet, I enjoy what will happen next time.

Today's script is this.
Thank you.

Thanks a lot for my friends. I will progress more, because of not only high score on Toeic test but also usual day in America.

Thanks a lot.

My favorite songs, "The Rose" and "Someway over the rainbow". [自分]

I think one of the joy to learn English is to understand the song.
My favorite songs are "The Rose" and "Someway over the rainbow".
Both songs are good for me to move my emotion and to understand the words.

This movie is Bette Midler-san,

The song lyrics written by Amanda McBroom-san are as follows,
Some say love it is a river
That drowns the tender reed
Some say love it is a razor
That leaves your soul to bleed
Some say love it is a hunger
And endless aching need
I say love it is a flower
And you its only seed

It's the heart afraid of breakin'
That never learns to dance
It's the dream afraid of wakin'
That never takes the chance
It's the one who won't be taken
Who cannot seem to give
And the soul afraid of dyin'
That never learns to live

When the night has been too lonely
And the road has been too long
And you think that love is only
For the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
Far beneath the bitter snows
Lies the seed that with the sun's love
In the spring becomes the rose

And another my favorite song is “Someway over the rainbow”.

I love those songs.

To speak in English is enjoyable. [自分]

In these days, I want to try to have conversations in English on the SKYPE.

A lot of times, I just have conversations by typing messages with typing the keyboard.
But today, I could talk and read the TV program in turns on the headphone and using the microphone.

It is good for me to develop my abilities to listen, to think, to make the sentences, and to pronounce.

The man who teaches me English recommends the TV programs, "Fringe".

And after I watch the program of episode 1 "pilot", we read the script in turns.

The episode is difficult and a little terrible for me but, it is good experience for me.
